Collagraph Course at FDPW April 2013

Just in case you are wondering - A collagraph is a print made from a collaged or textured board.

essentially a Collagraph "plate" (from which you make your print), is made from a cardboard (usually) base,  onto which are glued various materials e.g., fabric/textiles, papers including sandpaper, string, glue, and carborundum or sand. This is just an example of what can be included. There are a huge range of possibilities........ It is also possible to 'scribe' into some of the surfaces on the plate. Layers of paper can be cut and torn away from the card base additionally. The card can also be incised with a scalpel blade to create very fine lines.

Once the plate has been sealed with a final protective varnish - it is 'inked up' to get ink into all of the crevices and indentations. Thereafter, it is 'wiped' in preparation for putting it through the etching press. Printmaking paper is soaked in a water tray and 'blotted' to remove most of the water.  It is then placed over the ready inked/wiped plate and run through the press under immense pressure.
The plate may also be relief inked i.e. have ink rolled onto the surface thereby giving 2 colours from one run through the press.  There are also special methods for  inking different colours onto your plate which will be discussed.

Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition

This exhibition is open to all artists and will be held at The "Hall of Awa Japanese Paper Museum" in Tokushima, Japan in October 2013. There are plans to have a year-long international tour of the exhibition after the initial exhibition has closed.

Deadline for entry of artworks is 30th July, 2013

Paper size is A4 (21 x 29.70 cm)  up to 2 works may be entered.
Submission fee is 35 US dollars (approx £22.61) payable online.

The Green Door Printmaking Studio, based in Derby, UK  invite national and international printmakers to participate in their 5th annual international print exchange (IPE 2013).

Dry Point Graphic ArtBiennial, Uzice, Serbia 2013

Simonida Radonjic (drypoint) The City Gallery of Uzice, (Serbia) is the founder and organizer of the 11th Graphic Art Biennial  Dry Point 2013. At the 11th Graphic Biennial the selected prints will be exhibited  in two gallery locations. Only works in dry point technique (maximum size: 80 x 112 cm) shall be exhibited. Submitted works should be of a high professional standard.  A catalogue book,  of the selected and exhibited prints will be produced and send to those artists. Each artist can send a maximum of 2  original prints. PRINTMAKERS ‘OPEN STUDIO’ EVENT 1st December 2012

Start your Christmas shopping with a visit to Fife Dunfermline Printmakers Workshop, Nethertownbroad Street, Dunfermline on Saturday 1 December and be amazed at the range of unique artworks,  cards and other printed products that you’ll find for sale.

from noon until 4pm.

This year visitors will also have the chance to purchase prints from the workshop’s most recent collaborative venture 20:20 Print Exchange.  The initiative started in 2009 as a project between Hot Bed Press in Salford and Red Hot Press in Southampton.  This year the exchange involved 392 artists from 30 print studios from across the UK and Ireland producing a staggering 9,800 prints.  Every artist that takes part is asked to produce an edition of 25 prints and in return they receive a boxed set of 20 randomly selected prints (including their own).   Ten artists from Dunfermline Print Workshop took part.  We’ll be selling off prints from this exchange to raise funds for the workshop.  There are only one of each so first customers get the pick of the bunch.

Chair of the workshop Steve Ratomski said: “We were really pleased to be part of this initiative and hope to exhibit the 20:20 Print Exchange in Dunfermline later in the year.  In the meantime people can get a preview of the work and buy some original artwork for their home at a very reasonable price.
“I’m also delighted to announce that several of our members are exhibiting in the Royal Scottish Academy’s Open Exhibition taking place in Edinburgh in the run up to Christmas.  This is the most prestigious open-submission exhibition for small works in Scotland and shows the calibre of artist Dunfermline workshop attracts.”

Refreshments will also be on offer including mulled wine and mince pies so make sure you bring your friends and family, and a driver!
