FDPW Members exhibiting

Exhibiting at The Line Gallery in Linlithgow from October 1st to the 25th are our very own Susan Smith who I believe lives over that way , Catherine King, Sheila Carnduff and Clare Yarrington.  I really like their web set up .  Very personal and just friendly.  It is peculiar because I used to live in Linlithgow when we first landed in Scotland and had not really been aware of this gallery.

"Wanderings " Clare Yarrington at the Smith Art Gallery, Stirling

Clares latest solo exhibition is now open to the public and will run until the 13th March.

Clare  will be talking about her work in the gallery on Wednesday 19^th January at noon. Everyone welcome, admission free.

The work in this exhibition  is built on the pieces she made for the JD Fergusson Arts Award that Clare won in 2009. It has been developed further and also there are some earlier related  pieces.

"My theme then was of a journey through the landscape: a walk down from the hills to the sea, along the shore to rocky cliffs and a climb back up to the wide moor above. 

Over the last year I have continued to work on certain aspects of this theme, in particular looking more intimately at the rock itself. The series 'Disconnections' and 'Coils' show climbing ropes becoming embedded in the rock like fossils; while some of the climbing figures, which appear to be dancing up the surface of the rock/paper, are gradually being absorbed and becoming as one with the rock. 

'Wandering' also includes some earlier pictures that reflect on this theme: they are of other places and other times."

I love this quote from Clare  "My wanderings have never been in straight lines."

This sounds like a good opportunity to get a real grasp of the artists concerns and intentions.

I have just been visiting the creative Fife website and there is a lot of information on there concerning the activities of 'creatives' ( and those allied to them).
Take for example art galleries - I had not realized that there even was an art gallery in Dunfermline. Apparently there is !!............. It's called ARTROOM 59



which is a kind of mysterious name, I guess the owner, Ruth Walls, would be able to explain the idea behind the name?. It's a lot better than being called something typical such as eg "Frames". I can see from the 'previous exhibitions' on their website, that FDPW member, Sandra Baxter has shown there in a group exhibition but sadly as we have not seen Sandra for such a long time.......... it's not easy to explore what her experience was from the perspective of an exhibiting artist.


on further inspection I noticed that FDPW member, Clare Yarrington has also shown there so I will ask her, if her overall encounter was of a professional and satisfactory nature. Interestingly, one of my most pleasant and professional gallery experience was with my former "local gallery", in Ealing West London namely the PM Gallery, London, W5.



Well done Clare on finally getting your very own website on line - it's something many of us dream of/ strive for etc etc ....and many of us never get organized ....ho hum !!!
